Digg!

Partly due to the pressure of new terror laws in Britain and partly because of the effectiveness of Destroyers of jihadi websites like Internet Haganah, British-based radical Islamists have sought more imaginative online solutions both to maintain an online presence (even when they are banned) and to keep on recruiting (something they are increasingly desperate to do in a climate justifiably increasingly hostile towards them).

Whereas, in the past, Al Mujahiroun and its banned surrogate groups such as Al Ghurabaa and the Saviour Sect maintained an open web presence under Islamic generics like “Followers of Ahl Us-Sunnah wal Jamma”, “Ummah” or “Salaf”, with open generic domain websites set up under variations of these names, now – infiltrated as they are - they consider even the password-protected forums they attach to these generic sites as lacking in security.

The LTTE Terror Network in the UK PDF Print E-mail

The distinction between Islamic & LTTE terrorism is no longer valid. Western security agencies should disrupt the sitting target that is the LTTE, thus damaging Islamist terror operations that are using LTTE structures and facilities to operate.

The LTTE terrorist entity was banned in the UK on February 28th 2001

ImageThe annual publication of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) London "Military Balance 2005/2006" referred to emerging links between the LTTE and the Al-Qaeda movement. It was later revealed confidentially by the editors to diplomatic sources that these links were in terms of training cooperation and commercial  transactions including trafficking for financial gain and acquisition of technology rather than any ideological linkage. Experts are studying with interest links between the LTTE and Al-Qaeda in its financial, commercial and arms dealings. It is also believed that such links also exist in maritime transactions (VIGIL's future report on LTTE-Al Qaeda links is due in April 2007).

THE LTTE SIDING WITH THE ENEMY PDF Print E-mail

The distinction between Islamic & LTTE terrorism is no longer valid. Western security agencies should disrupt the sitting target that is the LTTE, thus damaging Islamist terror operations that are using LTTE structures and facilities to operate.

While security experts often draw comparisons between LTTE (Tamil Tiger) acts of terrorism and copycat acts performed by Islamist terrorists – often mentioning that the Tigers created the suicide bomber (actually the first Tiger suicide bombing was in 1987, seven years after the death of the Iranian suicide bomber Hossein Fahmideh) - the tangible evidence for the actual co-operation between the LTTE and Islamist terrorists has not been so forthcoming. Bad moonshine may cause deaths in Russia in July and then in Australia in September, but this does not mean that there was any collaboration between the distillers, or even that they were reading from the same recipe book. So where’s the hard proof away from generalists’ comparisons?

Where Can Newsroom Editors Turn For International Grassroots Reporting? PDF Print E-mail

Digg!

This month, significant developments have taken place in citizen journalism. There’s no longer any doubt that audience participation is maturing; citizen reporting is on its way to become part and parcel of the established media. Handsome amounts of cash are being paid for platforms gathering reports by mere mortals who relay first hand experiences of events to the world. Associated Content landed $10 million in financing earlier this month from Canaan Partners. At the same time, NowPublic raked in $10.6 million Rho Ventures. So what are winning strategies for newsroom editors in dealing with the citizen platforms?

It’s time to map the landscape. Who is out there and what’s on offer for newsroom editors? And how do editors tackle problems here?

Some 45% of editors in the US use citizen journalism tools and techniques, according to a recent study on behalf of the Pew Center and the Associated Press Managing Editors. Editors considering using citizen journalism amount to 66% of the survey’s respondents.

There are two problem that people encounter; the sheer number of participants is way larger than they have the resources for and the efforts often are focused on special projects rather than a consistent feature in reporting.

Finsbury Park: Inside the British Jihad PDF Print E-mail

Stepping off the subway at Finsbury Park, the change in scenery could not have been more acute. Just an hour earlier, I had been awed by the grandeur of Big Ben, towering over the British Houses of Parliament. It is the symbol of the England in our history books: a beacon of liberty, tolerance, and stability.

Finsbury Park is different. Small shops and ragged apartments line the streets of this working class area of North London. More pronounced than the socioeconomic inequality is the cultural discrepancy. Grocery stores feature Middle Eastern foods and advertisements for cheap phone calls to the East while women clad in veils and burkas stroll with their young children wearing kufis. As Christopher Hitchens remarks of Finsbury Park in the June 2007 issue of Vanity Fair, “Returning to the old place after a long absence, I found that it was the scent of Algeria that now predominated.”1

Journal Restructuring

In September 2010 the Westminster Journal concludes the moving of its centre of operations to New York. This is partly due to England's often senseless libel judgements and partly because of a restructuring of the journal under a corporation of new writers. After three years we decided it was time to make some changes. Though we are still called the Westminster Journal and our focus will remain British, New York is the journal's new home. The...

Blind Navarrete

In the Guardian this weekend was a fluffy, myopic piece about Venezuela written by some left-wing student, named Pablo Navarrete, who has done some jobbing for the New Statesman's John Pilger and spent some time in Venezuela a few years ago. The article, entitled "Venezuela deserves a fair hearing" is so flawed it merits almost total clarification.Venezuela- for obvious reasons (to those who know me) - is very close to...

A plethora of extremist groups operating in Britain are praying for a hung parliament and a weak Flib-Flab coalition. Amongst them are the extremist sect Hizb ut Tahrir al Islami who know that a Conservative government in May will spell a sorry end to their existence - at least cost them a load of money and support as they face a ban in Britain.Hizb ut Tahrir this year - as...

A Labour minister has said his Party has been infiltrated by Islamists who want to remove democratic principles and exercise political influence and power on all levels to create an ‘Islamic social and political order' in the United Kingdom.Jim Fitzpatrick, Minister of State for the Environment, said the group called the Islamic Forum of Europe (IFE), an Islamist organisation based in London, has placed sympathisers in elected Government offices and...

Tim Ireland in pieces

The desperate, amateur, left-wing blogger - Timothy Ireland - has officially cracked up. Into even tinier, little pieces. His latest outburst declares - and he actually means it - that I am a "terrorist"!Is Britain's care in the community policy so all-embracing that now we are importing nutters from the Commonwealth?Ireland's wavy line of warped logic claims I am engaged in a hate campaign against him (FALSE - three uncomplimentary...

Just before Christmas this publication began a campaign to have mainstream advertisers like HSBC remove their paid advertising from the website Ummah.com. We expected it to last a week or two. The campaign only required a day. We pointed out that Ummah.com was housing extremist Islamist material including videos and audio material which was illegal. We made clear to servicemen and women that the site was being used as a forum to mock the deaths of their...

Uganda Wakes Up

Uganda has finally woken up and seen the light. Uganda has indicated it will sensibly bow to international pressure and amend draconian anti-homosexual legislation that includes the death penalty for HIV-positive people convicted of having gay sex. This controversial bill was put forward by a member of the ruling party in Uganda. Uganda's president, Yoweri Museveni, said the bill had become a "foreign policy issue" and needed further consultation before being voted on in parliament. The proposed law, which...

2009 Closes

So 2009 ends with Al Qaeda’s version of the Nutcracker - the Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab stuffing explosives in his underpants and trying, but failing, to take down a transatlantic airliner as it descended into Detroit. Giving Mutallab seat 19A at Schiphol was a mistake that should lead to repaired airline security strategies. Homeland Security agencies worldwide have naturally stepped up their vigilance in case there are any other nut-exploding nutters out there with the same thing in...

HSBC MAKES GRAVE ERROR

Extreme Islamism - like all political movements - requires cash. Those who pay extreme Islamists are at best helping to further bigoted, Flintstone ideas and, at worst, they are directly funding Islamist terrorism. Since Islamists often show two faces to get what they want (in an uneducated misinterpretation, they justify this as taqiyya) a good lesson is to never pay an Islamist, whether you think he or she is an extremist or not. Not a penny. Remember that...

Smear, Smear, Smear

Another week and yet another attempted smear on me by the stained-anorak quislings of Spinwatch - the radical left wing propaganda unit (which hates Israel) operating out of Strathclyde University. A left wing kabal which buries facts and spins lies for no apparent good reason and to zero effect. Another reminder of why Spinwatch's "journalist" drones can't get a job with a decent paper but can just about manage an "ology" at one of the UK's most awful...

A Test for the Black Red Alliance

On Halloween Saturday this year - when juveniles dressed as freaks will be collecting candy on the streets of London - the extremist Islamist sect Al Muhajiroun's juvenile freaks (with no need to dress up any differently) will be marching from the House of Commons to Trafalgar Square to demand the full implementation of Shari'ah law in Britain. Leftist Tools

Left-wing extremists in the United Kingdom are gaining new recruits by exploiting the ennui resulting from 60 years of prosperity and decadence. This ennui is also driving a resurgence in recruitment and radicalisation activity by "whiter" supremacist groups, pro government extremists and egalitarian movements. Continuing racial and gender disparities in outcomes, mass consumerism during a prolonged period of peace, and other consequences of contrived intra-white status jockeying, intensified by the increasing cognitive stratification of the last 30 years, seems to be...

Glen’s Law

Glen Jenvey is the subject of a 2005 book by Neil Doyle called Terror Tracker. In Doyle's book Jenvey comes across as something of an expert in sniffing out terrorists online. And it was with this understanding of him that I met him in 2006 and asked him to become involved in a project I had set up to help pass intelligence on Islamist extremists to the British and other authorities. I had no reason to doubt...

Cheerleaders Declare War

Recently I have been linked by some leftie bloggers and their Islamist friends to a group called the Cheerleaders Against Islamic Extremism. “ Wightman linked to Cheerleader thugs” has been their mantra. The point of the smear - to make people think that a thoroughly exposed stalker is the victim of stalkers himself.  The link is a total fabrication backed up by an edited email and fiction borne of acrimony. My statement...

In Britain the far left is tiny. Like the British far right and the extreme Islamist movement, it has no chance of establishing itself in the critical mass that is Middle England and Britain's sagacious first-past-the-post governmental system thus ensures it remains where it belongs - in the political wilderness / on the political fruit farm. Occasionally you hear public huffs and puffs from far lefties. Since these days they are short of comrades and find it uphill...

“Linked with thugs”

Today the little-known blogzoids - Richard Bartholomew and Timothy Ireland - are still rattling on about me being linked with this group called the Cheerleaders Against Islamic Extremism who they refer to as "thugs".
