BNPA soldier, lecturer, retired policeman, trade unionist and teacher have been unmasked as members of the far-right British National Party in Greater Manchester.

Their names, addresses and personal details were contained in a leaked list of more than 12,000 BNP members published online.

Membership of the BNP is banned by the police, and trade unions have been pushing the government to allow them to expel members with connections to the party.

The BNP's leader, Nick Griffin, last night demanded a police probe into the leak, describing it as a 'disgraceful act of treachery' by ex-members.

He admitted the list was 'essentially genuine' and claimed he has 'no problems at all' about the professions of members being in the public domain, but had concerns about the safety of members whose addresses have been disclosed.

The list is believed to include an active serviceman and retired police officer, both from the Wigan area, a trade union shop steward from Tameside, a higher education tutor from Bolton and a teacher from Warrington.

Others include a company director from Stockport, an optician from the Bury area, a former boxer from Cheshire and a former senior housing organisation official from Tameside.

Several other former servicemen - including one who was in the RAF - are understood to be on the list.

The M.E.N. revealed last month how policeman Stuart Janaway, of Irlam, had been forced to resign after wearing a BNP badge at an England football match.

He was spotted wearing the badge when off-duty at a game against Hungary at Old Trafford two years ago.

Brown Down & Out PDF Print E-mail

BrownThe Scottish National Party has pulled off a stunning by-election victory by winning Glasgow East, one of Labour's safest seats, by 365 votes. The SNP overturned a Labour majority of 13,507 to win with a swing of 22.54%. The SNP polled 11,277 votes in the contest, while the Tories came third with 1,639 and the Lib Dems, with 915 votes, came fourth. SNP candidate John Mason said the victory was "off the Richter scale".

Voter turnout was 42.25%, down on the 48% figure at the last election, with 26,219 votes cast. The result was declared in Glasgow in the early hours of Friday, after a humiliating recount was requested by Labour, which won 10,912 votes in the contest.

Will it add to the pressure on Gordon Brown? Of course. Does it make David Cameron look a certainty as next British Prime Minister? Yes.

Is this by-election result bad for British politics? Yes, no doubt. For the Tory leader, David Cameron, is yet to define himself. He's yet to set out a coherent set of policies. He's yet to front up to most of the key issues that really matter today for the long term health of Britain - counter terrorism, the rise of extreme Islamism, civil liberties and immigration. Instead there has been policy short-termism - focusing on the economy and an NHS which cannot deliver in the longer term with Britain's population greying and the promises of the 1940's still intact. All Cameron needs to do is sit tight - leaving Brown to stumble from one disaster to another while Brown's ego lands with a bump in recognition of the reality that he was a strong chancellor but just doesn't cut it as a prime minister.

Attacks begin on net address flaw PDF Print E-mail

internet threatsAttack code that exploits flaws in the net's addressing system are starting to circulate online, say security experts.

The code could be a boon to phishing gangs who redirect web users to fake bank sites and steal login details.

In light of the news net firms are being urged to apply a fix for the loop-hole before attacks by hi-tech criminals become widespread.

Net security groups say there is anecdotal evidence that small scale attacks are already happening.

"We are in a lot of trouble," said security guru Dan Kaminsky who found the flaw in the net's Domain Name System (DNS) in March 2008.

"This attack is very good," he said. "This attack is being weaponised out in the field. Everyone needs to patch, please."

The DNS acts as the net's address system and helps computers translate the website names people use, such as bbc.co.uk, into the numerical equivalents preferred by machines.

If exploited the flaw would allow malicious hackers to direct people to fake sites even if that user typed in the correct address for the place they wanted to visit.

Now security researchers have come up with two separate methods for attacking the flaw.

The code used in the attacks has been added to a popular testing tool called Metasploit used by both good and bad hackers alike to find weaknesses in computer systems.

The attack code was developed following the accidental leaking of the bug Mr Kaminsky discovered. Initially he had planned to release more information in October.

After being discovered in March, information about it was shared with large net organisations such as Cisco, Google, Yahoo and Microsoft to give them chance to produce patches and fixes.

Now net supply firms are being urged to get on with the job of updating their systems so customers are not left at risk.

Are British Muslims Treated Like Jews in 1930s Germany? PDF Print E-mail

On Jews, Muslims and Hitler

Da bombs are hereYesterday - Monday July 7, 2008 - was the third anniversary of the suicide bombings on London Transport. Mohammed Sidique Khan, Shehzad Tanweer and Jermaine Lindsay blew themselves up on underground trains, while Hasib Hossain boarded a Number 30 bus and detonated his rucksack in Tavistock Square. 52 people were killed and hundreds were injured.

On British television, a documentary was broadcast on Channel 4, entitled "It Shouldn't Happen To a Muslim." This was produced by Peter Oborne, and it asserted that Muslims have become demonized in British society.

In an article in the independent newspaper, Peter Oborne argued that Islamophobia is the new "British disease". He follows the line that Muslims are being oppressed, and states that "Surveys show Muslims have the highest rate of unemployment, the poorest health, the most disability and fewest educational qualifications of any faith group in the country. This means they are vulnerable, rendering them open to ignorant and hostile commentary from mainstream figures."If Muslims are poorly educated and unable to find good jobs - it this the fault of Britain?

Recent mass immigration from Poland has proved that even without language skills, there are jobs available in Britain for those who are willing to work. Muslims' health issues are similarly of their own making - after all in Britain even illegal immigrants have access to full free-on-the-point-of-delivery healthcare. And I wonder what these surveys class as disability - work-related accidents, or even congenital disabilities, caused by inbreeding, a by-product of arranged marriage customs?

prisoner convenantAn Algerian suspected of links to Osama bin Laden and bomb plots in the United States and France has been freed from a British prison after more than seven years but placed under house arrest while he fights deportation.

The 45-year-old man was released under bail conditions, made public last Thursday, which restrict him to a single, undisclosed address and state that he "shall remain in the residence at all times".

Although his name has been widely publicised in European trials, U.S. extradition proceedings and past media reporting, the man can be identified only as "U" under British legal restrictions covering deportation cases against foreign terrorism suspects.

He is the second alleged al Qaeda figure to be freed by Britain in just over two weeks, following the release on June 17 of Jordanian militant preacher and "Bin Laden's lieutenant in Britain" Abu Qatada.

While the government says they are dangerous, it lacks enough evidence to put them on trial in Britain and has so far failed in legal battles to deport them.

Neither man is allowed to use a computer or mobile phone, or to receive visitors except by approval from the Home Secretary (interior minister). But U's restrictions go even further than those on Abu Qatada, who can leave home for two hours a day.

Now aged 45, U was arrested at London's Heathrow airport in February 2001 when attempting to fly to Saudi Arabia on a false passport. The British government calls him a "leading organiser and facilitator of terrorist activity aimed mainly at overseas targets", with direct links to bin Laden and other senior al Qaeda figures.

Ahmed Ressam, convicted of a plot to blow up Los Angeles International Airport on the eve of the millennium, was carrying U's phone number on him when he was arrested with 60 kg (130 lb) of explosives on the Canadian-U.S. border on Dec. 14, 1999.

Another Flea off the Coat

A fugitive British militant linked to an alleged UK plot to use liquid bombs to blow up transatlantic airliners has been killed in Pakistan, reports say. Pakistani media said Rashid Rauf, born in Birmingham, was killed in a US air strike in North Waziristan, a haven for militants and the Taleban. Mr Rauf, on the run after escaping from a Pakistani jail, was alleged to have helped the group planning the attacks. Three men were convicted in the...

Al-Qaeda message condemns Obama

The second-in-command of Islamic militant network al-Qaeda has hit out at US President-elect Barack Obama. In a message purportedly from Ayman al-Zawahiri, the al-Qaeda deputy called Mr Obama a "house negro" - a demeaning term implying he served white people. Mr Obama's plan to bolster the US military presence in Afghanistan would fail, Zawahiri said. If genuine, the message would be the first acknowledgement by al-Qaeda of the president-elect's victory. The audio message appeared on militant websites. Zawahiri,...

A waiver too far

US airport security is second to none. Iris scans, detectors of various kinds, pat-down inspections, screenings, biometrics and finger-print check-ins are increasingly current in US international airports. If you or your baggage have been in the vicinity of explosives or you are concealing a weapon, one or a combination of these security measures will be your undoing. Or one of the army of gruff, armed US visa officers or their CCTV colleagues will likely spot you and...

Obamanomics

Obama's economic plan is a recipe for long-lasting disaster. Keep in mind that wrecking anything, as opposed to building things, requires very little time and effort. Obama's plan is deceptively attractive, while in reality it is a huge wrecking ball that will capsize the already listing ship of our economy. Here is a partial list of reasons why. Judge for yourself. Obama is proposing a trillion dollars in new spending. Where is he going to get the money,...

Just Criminal?

The recent British Government trend to not refer to "Islamic terrorism" or "Islamist terrorism" - instead referring merely to "criminals" and "criminal acts" - is either supremely clever or depressingly thoughtless depending upon the premise they started from. Islamist terrorism - a tidier phrase than Islamic terrorism - neatly describes the criminal act of terrorism carried out by Muslims with a political bent. With this phrase, there is no need for the epithet "extreme" before Islamist (meaning...

Fine Line

There are times as a convinced infidel when it's hard not to blanket-hate Islam - when you're worn-out, angry and reading up on yet another likely long-bearded, odium-spitting Islamist radical who hates you, your family, your country and everything you stand for yet lives amongst you and lives off you. It can be so easy to forget that there is a massive difference - a great gulf called civilisation - between Islam and Muslims on the...

Saudi cleric favours one-eye veil

A Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia has called on women to wear a full veil, or niqab, that reveals only one eye. Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive. The question of how much of her face a woman should cover is a controversial topic in many Muslim societies. The niqab is more common in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, but women in much of the Muslim Middle East wear a headscarf...

King Never Asked…

CNN's king of the talk-show hosts and the icon of one of the major television networks, Larry King, hosted an interview on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 with the devil himself.  Many Iranians felt completely betrayed by Mr. King's line of questioning. They felt that Mr. King was missing key questions. I am not advocating a hostile interview here, but how could Mr. King allow Ahmadinejad to easily dance away. It seemed he was deliberately making Ahmadinejad...
