just criminalThe recent British Government trend to not refer to "Islamic terrorism" or "Islamist terrorism" - instead referring merely to "criminals" and "criminal acts" - is either supremely clever or depressingly thoughtless depending upon the premise they started from.

Islamist terrorism - a tidier phrase than Islamic terrorism - neatly describes the criminal act of terrorism carried out by Muslims with a political bent. With this phrase, there is no need for the epithet "extreme" before Islamist (meaning "political Muslim") because the word terrorism inherently implies an extremist act - thus proving the mostly watertight axiom that "not all extremists are terrorists but all terrorists are extremists". Yet those in the Government - and the Conservative opposition - consider Islamist terrorism as a term to be insulting to the majority of Muslims who they want to keep onside, though they all agree that Islamic terrorism is Islamist and that all terrorism is unquestionably extreme.

So, what is the government thinking?

Either the government is so bright it has recognised that neither extreme Islamists nor Islamist terrorists are Muslims - they are deviants and, when pushed to terrorism, they are criminals - or the government is falling prey to the Islamist lobby, which tries to ban every phrase related to Islam that might ever come up in a critical context, just as they sought to limit British freedom of expression a few years ago in the Racial & Religious Hatred Bill in its earlier incarnations.  Call me a cynic, but I suspect it's the latter that is happening here - there was no bomb in Britain this summer and so, like the IRA after their ceasefire, there are those, listening perhaps to misinformed policeman Sir Hugh Orde, who think that now's a fine time to negotiate with Al Qaeda.

If the Government falls into the latter camp of appeasement - for just as with Hitler and the Nazis, extreme Islamism (let alone its terrorists) are, en masse, non-negotiable entities - then shame on it. Not only do such non-negotiable entities need to be humiliated, mocked and hammered into the ground so they never rise again, any appeasement of this foe now (while they are relatively weak) is merely going to lead to a tougher battle later on down the road. Worse still, this position shows that political Islamists, either through the bomb, infiltration or mass votes on councils or in swing seats, already have cards they can play in modern day British politics - that the Government is taking their abhorrent views seriously when their views may sit well with some weird medieval ulema in Saudi Arabia or in other lands you'd not even send your mother-in-law to but have no place in civilised Britain.

fine lineThere are times as a convinced infidel when it's hard not to blanket-hate Islam - when you're worn-out, angry and reading up on yet another likely long-bearded, odium-spitting Islamist radical who hates you, your family, your country and everything you stand for yet lives amongst you and lives off you. It can be so easy to forget that there is a massive difference - a great gulf called civilisation - between Islam and Muslims on the one side and extreme Islamism on the other. It's hard to remember that no man can think clearly when his fists are clenched.

Bin Laden must love it when we get tired and fall into his desired trap - how he and his sort would love us to make that undemanding mistake; how he must rattle his beads all night long hoping that we all get tired and split the world into his Manichean madness of Muslim and Non-Muslim at war until the last man's standing. It's a surprise Zawahiri's forehead hasn't split open all over the floor of whichever Rawalpindi mansion he's staying in, as he prays endlessly for this explosive demarcation.

It is when you've had enough of examining why apparently grown men explode themselves on trains and buses - when you've seen for yourself the Islamist crazies on the streets of London recently celebrating the end of capitalism (benefits giros in pocket) or declaring the innocence of another blatantly guilty prisoner - that you throw your hands and your papers in the air and head for a beer convinced that Mohammed was just a sick paedophile and that all Muslims are hegemonistic, all privately desiring Flintstone Talibanesque Khalifah. Even the Pakistani guy in the shop who flogs you a six-pack of over-priced liver-eating Boddingtons appears to have a glint of absolute superiority in his kuffar-hating head - when you're in those Islam-swiping doldrums.

No wonder Muslims are all savage attackers, you think, as you recall sura after sura of bloodthirsty commands from the Qu'ran; that hate-ridden face of vertically-challenged Mohammed Atta emblazoned across your mind in all its wickedness as it perspires sweat of neat evil. This is a battle between Light and Darkness you convince yourself - even the word veil is a conundrum of the word evil - and soon you're lulled into the falsehood that being Muslim inevitably involves selling your soul to the devil and a one-way ticket to hell.

one eye dresscode coming soon?A Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia has called on women to wear a full veil, or niqab, that reveals only one eye.

Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive.

The question of how much of her face a woman should cover is a controversial topic in many Muslim societies.

The niqab is more common in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, but women in much of the Muslim Middle East wear a headscarf which covers only their hair.

Sheikh Habadan, an ultra-conservative cleric who is said to have wide influence among religious Saudis, was answering questions on the Muslim satellite channel al-Majd.

Larry KingCNN's king of the talk-show hosts and the icon of one of the major television networks, Larry King, hosted an interview on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 with the devil himself.  Many Iranians felt completely betrayed by Mr. King's line of questioning. They felt that Mr. King was missing key questions. I am not advocating a hostile interview here, but how could Mr. King allow Ahmadinejad to easily dance away. It seemed he was deliberately making Ahmadinejad look and act like a human being.

As the old saying goes, "There's no such thing as a stupid question." However, in the minds of many Iranians as well as many non-Iranians, there is such a thing, and Mr. King lost huge points with his line of questioning. Yet, valid questions remain about media performance and the role of public communication practitioners in shaping perception. The role of media is not to impose self-censorship and avoid critical questions.

It is hard to digest how the liberal media has singlehandedly, in a matter of three short days, managed to make Ahmadinejad look statesmanlike. Mr. Ahmadinejad was given a forum to reiterate his deception, repeatedly. Larry King would not even say that he himself is Jewish and that he supports Israel. He looked very mesmerized by the presence of this evil man who is responsible for the death and misery that exists in Iran. He did not contradict Ahmadinejad, did not show him up. He allowed him to make points to undermine the existence of the friendship between Israel and the United States.

Ahmadinejad’s utterance on Tuesday echoed the past remarks he has made, including calls to annihilate Israel and threats to the U.S. and other countries that support Israel. On September 18, 2008, he said, “the Zionist regime is a regime that will disappear.” But, I have news for him, most Iranians believe that the Islamic Republic is an illegitimate regime and must soon disappear. On February 28, 2007, he said, “Zionists are the true incarnation of Satan.” Ironically, most Iranians believe that Ahmadinejad is the Satan and does not represent the Iranian people any more than his turbaned-colleagues presently ruling Iran do. What needs to be understood is that in fact Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs, above all else, are true Muslims and despise anything “Iranian” and its ancient “pre-Islamic” heritage.

islamist emailWestminster Journal this week was sent this email correspondence from a Hizb ut-Tahrir al Islami (HT) insider. It is an HT internal email to the "internal HT list".  In the email, HT congratulates itself on being able to raise 20,000 Bengalis to rallies in spite of the fact that a game of scrabble on the streets of over-populated Dhakar, Bangladesh would draw in more if all could see the board.

HT talks of a smear going on in Bangladesh against HT in spite of the fact that they were directly linked to violence as an organisation just last week in Bangladesh, as reported in this journal and by news agencies such as Reuters.

Should the comment "the Hizb and its work has indeed entered the political classes as well as the academic and societal atmosphere" worry you - fear not. A source in Bangladesh has confirmed to Westminster Journal that, as in all lands of operation, Hizb ut Tahrir is suffering from major defections from its executive in Bangladesh and that, if anything, is why there have been a series of recent arrests in and around the capital Dhakar.

The text of the email as written is as follows:

"Assalamu alaikum,

As you know the call for the Khilafah has been gathering pace over the last few years.  It is a work that now spans the entire globe and has struck a chord with the masses, as well as the elite and influential people.  Brothers, over several years the work in Bangladesh has been gathering pace.  The strength of the Hizb in Bangladesh is not only measured by the numbers we attract at rallies (sometimes over 20,000), but also in the ability to establish itself in the political medium.  The Hizb and its work has indeed entered the political classes as well as the academic and societal atmosphere.

This success is bringing an intensifying clash between the authorities and the Hizb, and has culminated recently in a smear campaign against the hizb amongst the general media, as well as desperate measures such as arresting, harassing and threatening the sincere shabbab of the Hizb.

Imagine looking across the breakfast table at your wife and kids knowing that the corn flakes and orange juice consumed by them are dripping with the blood of innocents because you bought them with your terror-funding wages. Imagine driving your children to school in a luxury car which in itself is a fine-looking machine but - you well know - was bought with money reeking of innocent corpses and wrecked lives from some other corner of...

Pakistani media said Rashid Rauf, born in Birmingham, was killed in a US air strike in North Waziristan, a haven for militants and the Taleban. Mr Rauf, on the run after escaping from a Pakistani jail, was alleged to have helped the group planning the attacks. Three men were convicted in the...

Al-Qaeda message condemns Obama

The second-in-command of Islamic militant network al-Qaeda has hit out at US President-elect Barack Obama. In a message purportedly from Ayman al-Zawahiri, the al-Qaeda deputy called Mr Obama a "house negro" - a demeaning term implying he served white people. Mr Obama's plan to bolster the US military presence in Afghanistan would fail, Zawahiri said. If genuine, the message would be the first acknowledgement by al-Qaeda of the president-elect's victory. The audio message appeared on militant websites. Zawahiri,...

Judge for yourself. Obama is proposing a trillion dollars in new spending. Where is he going to get the money,...
