DodoHowever, when they had been running half an hour or so, and were quite dry again, the Dodo suddenly called out "The race is over!" and they all crowded round it, panting, and asking, "But who has won?" This question the Dodo could not answer without a great deal of thought, and it sat for a long time with one finger pressed upon its forehead....At last the Dodo said, 'Everybody has won, and all must have prizes.'"

The above passage from Alice in Wonderland was published by Lewis Carroll in 1865. Two years later, Karl Marx published Das Kapital, a withering critique of capitalism. In 1848, Marx and Engels had published the Communist Manifesto.

When Carroll wrote "all shall have prizes", it is unknown if he specifically referred to communist or socialist movements which were developing in the mid 19th century. Carroll himself may have flirted with "Christian Socialism", but he is generally viewed as a conservative and traditionalist. The enduring power of "Alice in Wonderland" and its sequel derives from its affectionate irreverence towards traditional institutions such as royalty and the judicial process.

Carroll's protagonist, Alice, encounters a menagerie of caricature figures that border on the grotesque. Her questions and comments are straightforward and direct. These comments cut through the pretensions of the powerful and expose them as harmless by demonstrating their absurdities.

The "Caucus Race" on the beach, where an extinct old bird encourages others to run around in circles can be seen as a satire on politics. The term "caucus" is essentially American, but Carroll appears to be lampooning British politics. The creatures running in a circle are not too dissimilar from the Red Queen in "Through the Looking Glass" (1871) who states: "Now, here, you see, it takes all the running you can do, to keep in the same place."

Malaysia: First (Living) Woman Allowed To Leave Islam PDF Print E-mail

leaving IslamMalaysia attempts to present itself as a "liberal" Muslim state. Article 11 of the Malaysian constitution states that a citizen can follow any religion of their choosing, contains a clause which shows that Malaysia has no concept of religious freedom but adds: "The law may control or restrict the propagation of any religious doctrine or belief among persons professing the religion of Islam." Article 3 states that Islam is the official religion of the state, but Article 3 (1) of the constitution states that 'other religions may be practiced in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation'.

Additionally, there is a racist element in Malaysia's constitution. All ethnic Malays are said to be Muslim. At the age of 12, each person in Malaysia is issued with an identity card - called MyKad - upon which the person's religion and race are listed. And all Malays are automatically said to be Muslims.

The problems are made worse by the racism of Malaysia's ruling party - UMNO. This party has ruled in a coalition since Malaysia became independent in 1957. After race riots in 1969, the party has actively promoted a racist policy of "ketuanan Melayu" which gives job preferences and privileges to Malays and Muslims above other racial/religious groups.

NyonyaIn the history of modern Malaysia, the only person who was allowed to leave Islam was an 89-year old widow called Nyonya Tahir. She had married a Chinese Buddhist man in 1936 when she was aged 20. She became a Buddhist. Her choice to become a Buddhist was made long before the Malaysian constitution was written. Nyonya had tried repeatedly to have the National Registration Department (NRD) change her status to "Buddhist".

The NRD never makes any decisions of this nature, as an amendment tot he constitution was brought in by the ruling UMNO party in 1988. There are two systems of justice in Malaysia - the civil courts, and the sharia (Syariah) courts. Article 121 (a) was introduced in 1988 which stated that any issue which fell under the jurisdiction of the Islamic courts could not be dealt with by the civil courts. As for a Muslim all issues of "religious status" are dealt with by the Islamic courts, all appeals to civil courts on issues of apostasy are rejected.

Tamil terror group's manual revealed PDF Print E-mail

Tamil TigersAn LTTE (Tamil Tigers) operations manual seized by Canadian Police in 2006 and made public for the first time in court documents unsealed on Friday, reveals that foreign politicians are central to the group's propaganda battle.

"The World Tamil Movement (WTM) followed the directives of the LTTE Operations Manual, which dictates that the foreign branches must establish contact with parliamentarians and political figures of all levels of government in order to advance their cause," Canadian Police Corporal Shirley Davermann wrote in the affidavit. Police uncovered the operations manual in a 2006 raid on WTM properties.

Dated April 1, the affidavit supported a federal application to seize the World Tamil Movement's Montreal headquarters as well as its bank accounts, saying the assets were being used to finance terrorism. (The Canadian government listed the Tamil Tigers as a terrorist group in 2006.) The affidavit describes the WTM as a "foreign branch" of the LTTE.

The annual Martyrs Day celebrations held in Montreal typically feature dozens of mock tombstones dedicated to fallen Tamil Tigers and militaristic banners.

At last December's event, children were photographed wearing LTTE T-shirts and one young boy in military garb was shown brandishing a fake weapon.

The inclusion of Tamil-Canadian children in ceremonies celebrating the Tigers represents another prong of the group's plan for its foreign branches, as discovered in a document seized by the RCMP. An account of a 2004 training workshop held in Sri Lanka attended by Canadian Tamil activists, it describes a speech given by Mr. Prabhakaran, the Tiger leader.

"He strongly suggested that everyone has to believe in the absolute victory, and he explained that the younger generation that lives abroad must be taken in, for the freedom battle," according to the affidavit.

The Canadian police also interviewed five Tamil witnesses, whose identities are blacked out in the affidavit. The five described being forced to agree to make regular payments to support the LTTE before they could enter territory controlled by the Tigers on trips back to Sri Lanka. The forms authorizing monthly withdrawals from the witnesses' bank accounts were brought back to Canada by Thanasegaram Chandrasegaram, a WTM fundraiser, the Canadian Police alleges.

Million Miles from Trust-Worthiness PDF Print E-mail

nampIn an unctuous article in March's Jane's Police Review entitled "Million Miles from Reality", the Chairman of the National Association of Muslim Police (UK), Zaheer Ahmad, lamented about how the first ACPO conference on counter-terrorism in Brighton in February, whilst inviting the likes of Ed Husain and Maajid Nawaz from the Quilliam Foundation, failed to deliver an invitation to his organisation.

Furthermore, Ahmad had harsh words for senior police officers. Ahmad stated: "It seems that some of our most senior officers have been seduced by Mr (Ed) Husain's celebrity status and have been taken in by the stereotypical image of Islam he portrays in his book ("The Islamist"). This is an image they probably feel comfortable with, but is a million miles from reality. Mr Husain has few supporters within the Muslim Community."

Ahmad's main point betrays his group's Islamist agenda: "We regularly hear senior police officers say ‘Communities defeat terrorism'. The police service needs to live this phrase and not allow it to be a convenient strapline without demonstrating a true commitment to it. We must make full use of the skills and knowledge of our Muslim officers and staff, and not be swayed by such dramatic headlines as ‘Four Brit Al Qaeda Cops' (News of the World, 9 March)."

The National Association of Muslim Police (NAMP) was launched at British Transport Police HQ in London on Wednesday the 11th of July 2007.
In a press release by the Jamaat-e-Islami linked Muslim Council of Britain, NAMP was described as "representing Muslim Police Officers and Staff through out the United Kingdom and providing a national voice for existing Associations of Muslim Police organisations. The Islamist Dr Bari from the Muslim Council of Britain opened the launch and said "Muslims in the police service are essential and provide a valuable service to all sections of the community".

British Doomsday: Tea Supply Threat PDF Print E-mail

teaNuclear weapons and the threat of an attack on Britain presented "much more difficult food defence problems" and a British equivalent of Doomsday: a lack of tea.

The threat of a nuclear attack on the tea-loving UK in the 1950s caused concern over the supply of tea, top-secret documents which have now been released expose.

Government officials planning food supplies said the tea position would be "very serious" after a nuclear war. "It would be wrong to consider that even 1oz per head per week could be ensured," they stated.

The papers were released under the Freedom of Information Act by the National Archives at Kew in Surrey, England. The documents said a nuclear conflict would result in the loss of three-quarters of tea stocks. For Brits used to turning to tea as other nationals might seek air to breathe, this would be a national disaster beyond comparison.

One Government paper from April 1955 said: "The advent of thermonuclear weapons... has presented us with a new and much more difficult set of food defence problems."

The plan was to be "completely ready to maintain supplies of food to the people of these islands, sufficient in volume to keep them in good heart and health from the onset of a thermonuclear attack on this country". "It has become increasingly clear that the severity of the attack which the enemy could launch would produce a catastrophe in the face of which past measures would be fatally deficient," the document added.

For planning purposes, the Ministry of Food listed London, Birmingham, Merseyside, Manchester and Clydeside as H-bomb targets. Tyneside, Teesside, Leeds, Sheffield, Hull, Derby, Purfleet in Essex, Southampton, Portsmouth, Bristol, Plymouth, Cardiff, Coventry and Belfast were named as A-bomb targets.

Imagine looking across the breakfast table at your wife and kids knowing that the corn flakes and orange juice consumed by them are dripping with the blood of innocents because you bought them with your terror-funding wages. Imagine driving your children to school in a luxury car which in itself is a fine-looking machine but - you well know - was bought with money reeking of innocent corpses and wrecked lives from some other corner of...

Al-Qaeda message condemns Obama

The second-in-command of Islamic militant network al-Qaeda has hit out at US President-elect Barack Obama. In a message purportedly from Ayman al-Zawahiri, the al-Qaeda deputy called Mr Obama a "house negro" - a demeaning term implying he served white people. Mr Obama's plan to bolster the US military presence in Afghanistan would fail, Zawahiri said. If genuine, the message would be the first acknowledgement by al-Qaeda of the president-elect's victory. The audio message appeared on militant websites. Zawahiri,...

Obama's plan is deceptively attractive, while in reality it is a huge wrecking ball that will capsize the already listing ship of our economy. Here is a partial list of reasons why. Judge for yourself. Obama is proposing a trillion dollars in new spending. Where is he going to get the money,...

Just Criminal?

The recent British Government trend to not refer to "Islamic terrorism" or "Islamist terrorism" - instead referring merely to "criminals" and "criminal acts" - is either supremely clever or depressingly thoughtless depending upon the premise they started from. Islamist terrorism - a tidier phrase than Islamic terrorism - neatly describes the criminal act of terrorism carried out by Muslims with a political bent. With this phrase, there is no need for the epithet "extreme" before Islamist (meaning...

Saudi cleric favours one-eye veil

A Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia has called on women to wear a full veil, or niqab, that reveals only one eye. Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive. The question of how much of her face a woman should cover is a controversial topic in many Muslim societies. The niqab is more common in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, but women in much of the Muslim Middle East wear a headscarf...

They felt that Mr. King was missing key questions. I am not advocating a hostile interview here, but how could Mr. King allow Ahmadinejad to easily dance away. It seemed he was deliberately making Ahmadinejad...
