click to enlarge "A day like today is not a day for sound bites, really. But I feel the hand of history upon our shoulders. I really do," Tony Blair declared in April 1998, just before the signing of the Good Friday agreement in Northern Ireland. What a decade ago seemed like an intractable war in Northern Ireland - a bitter, divisive conflict inside the country, spilling out into mainland Britain and prolonged by an IRA mafia with Diaspora around the world - today looks like a genuine calm. Northern Ireland has genuinely benefited from Blair's hand of history and prospers in its new found peace.

Meanwhile, with more than 70,000 dead after a conflict between Tamil Tiger rebels and the Sri Lankan government that has lasted for nearly three decades, peace seems further away than ever in Sri Lanka - the forgotten island in South Asia. The civil war between the mainly Hindu Tamils and the mainly Buddhist Sinhalese erupted in the 1980s with Tamils pressing for self-rule.

While the majority of the fighting took place in the north and east of the country, Tamil Tiger rebels carried out devastating suicide bombings in Colombo in the 1990s. A ceasefire and a political agreement brokered by Norway in 2002 raised hopes for a peaceful solution, but with violence escalating in 2006 the conflict is once again turning into a fully-fledged civil war which the Tigers themselves are calling "the Final War".

The Tamil Tigers are a proscribed terrorist entity in thirty-two different countries. While they are infamous for their use of suicide bombers, what is less well known is that they run their own airports, arms procurement businesses and a bank. Their funding comes mostly from Tamil Diaspora in the UK, Canada and Australia, who are pressed into sending funds through Tamil Tiger fronts, particularly charities, to Sri Lanka, for fear that their relatives living in Sri Lanka will experience the full brunt of Tamil Tiger officials if funds do not materialize. The Tigers, like Al Qaeda, use criminal means to make up most of the rest of their funding, for example credit card fraud and trading in counterfeit goods. The group is advanced - garnering political support abroad, running a network of businesses, drug and arms running. The Tigers have been known to procure passports for Islamist terrorists and have proven themselves capable of air and sea attacks on Sri Lankan government service personnel, as well as civilian targets.

ImageI'm a Muslim. I happen to be a woman. I'm a British Sufi - from the publicly-under-represented Sufi brand of Islam which outnumbers Wahhabis, Deobandis and other Muslim sects in Britain by five to one. I see these other sects as hegemonistic and blinkered - misled Muslims who have lost their way and are letting the side down in a shockingly bad way. Sufis are taught to be altruistic, focus on spirituality and work hard - we, above all Muslims, contribute a great deal to British society and the British economy, and we're proud of it. In no way are we represented by Islamist groups like the Muslim Council of Britain, who look down on Sufis and work slyly to fulfil the goals not of the British Muslim majority but hegemonistic Islamists (in the MCB's case, Jamaat e Islaami).

For some time I've wanted to ram the words of so-called Muslim extremists back down their throats - men and women included. Their blinkered approach beggars belief. How can they accuse the West - while living off state benefits and the fat of the land - of being morally bankrupt?
The recent case of the 19 year old girl in Saudi Arabia who was gang raped fourteen times then sentenced to 90 lashes (only freed after Western pressure on the House of Saud after her sentence was increased to 200 lashes and six months in jail) is symptomatic of the moral bankruptcy of so-called Muslim lands.

Bangladeshi Terror Training Camps in relation to the UK

ImageHizb ut Tahrir are focusing on a coup in Bangladesh. They are paying out large sums of cash to recruit British-based Bangladeshis - located in the Tower Hamlets area of East London. On the doorstep of Canary Wharf. This is a new strategy for HT in the UK, as previously they regarded Bangladeshi Muslims as inferior to their - mostly Urdu-speaking Pakistani - UK membership. These are troubling times in Bangladesh, which faced a state of emergency in January 2007.

Independent of Hizb ut Tahrir's activities, it is becoming clear that East London-based Bangladeshis - with extremist Islamist tendencies -  are traveling to various terror training camps established in Bangladesh. The fact is that Bangladesh relies to a great extent on funds from its Diaspora abroad and this includes Britain. Young British Bangladeshis tend to be far more religious and radical than Bangladeshis in Bangladesh - there are real Islamist terrorist problems in Bangladesh and it seems highly likely that Bangladeshis based in Britain are playing some part in funding these groups, especially now the situation in Bangladesh is so dire.

1: Who are these Islamist terror groups based/operating in Bangladesh?

Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HuJI) was established in 1992, reportedly with assistance from Osama bin Laden's International Islamic Front. On April 30, 1992, several of the HuJI leaders addressed a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka and demanded that Bangladesh be converted into an Islamic State. The outfit's activities, however, were noticed in June 1996 after the Awami League came to power. The HuJI was proscribed by the Government on October 17, 2005. The HuJI is led by Shawkat Osman alias Sheikh Farid. Imtiaz Quddus is the general secretary of the outfit. HuJI aims to establish Islamic Hukumat (rule) in Bangladesh by waging war and killing progressive intellectuals. It draws inspiration from bin Laden and the erstwhile Taliban regime of Afghanistan. At one point in time, the groups issued a slogan, Amra Sobai Hobo Taliban, Bangla Hobe Afghanistan (We will all become Taliban and we will turn Bangladesh into Afghanistan). HuJI recruits are indoctrinated in the mould of radical Islam.

ablution: the washing of the body or some part of it.

exculpate: to clear from alleged fault or guilt.

Mumbai Attacks 2008

‘As the horror of the Mumbai bombings sinks in, we witness once more the lethal effects of Islamist terror. More than 100 people slain, dozens horribly injured and traumatized, buildings in flames and a nation bewildered by this unspeakable carnage. This latest atrocity carried out by vicious ideologues in the name of Islam had all the hallmarks of an Al Qaeda inspired attack – murderous co-ordinated strikes at Western innocents...

Another Flea off the Coat

A fugitive British militant linked to an alleged UK plot to use liquid bombs to blow up transatlantic airliners has been killed in Pakistan, reports say. Pakistani media said Rashid Rauf, born in Birmingham, was killed in a US air strike in North Waziristan, a haven for militants and the Taleban. Mr Rauf, on the run after escaping from a Pakistani jail, was alleged to have helped the group planning the attacks. Three men were convicted in the...

Al-Qaeda message condemns Obama

The second-in-command of Islamic militant network al-Qaeda has hit out at US President-elect Barack Obama. In a message purportedly from Ayman al-Zawahiri, the al-Qaeda deputy called Mr Obama a "house negro" - a demeaning term implying he served white people. Mr Obama's plan to bolster the US military presence in Afghanistan would fail, Zawahiri said. If genuine, the message would be the first acknowledgement by al-Qaeda of the president-elect's victory. The audio message appeared on militant websites. Zawahiri,...

BNP Membership List Leaked

A soldier, lecturer, retired policeman, trade unionist and teacher have been unmasked as members of the far-right British National Party in Greater Manchester. Their names, addresses and personal details were contained in a leaked list of more than 12,000 BNP members published online. Membership of the BNP is banned by the police, and trade unions have been pushing the government to allow them to expel members with connections to the party. The BNP's leader, Nick...

US airport security is second to none. Iris scans, detectors of various kinds, pat-down inspections, screenings, biometrics and finger-print check-ins are increasingly current in US international airports. If you or your baggage have been in the vicinity of explosives or you are concealing a weapon, one or a combination of these security measures will be your undoing. Or one of the army of gruff, armed US visa officers or their CCTV colleagues will likely spot you and...

Obamanomics

Obama's economic plan is a recipe for long-lasting disaster. Keep in mind that wrecking anything, as opposed to building things, requires very little time and effort. Obama's plan is deceptively attractive, while in reality it is a huge wrecking ball that will capsize the already listing ship of our economy. Here is a partial list of reasons why. Judge for yourself. Obama is proposing a trillion dollars in new spending. Where is he going to get the money,...

Just Criminal?

The recent British Government trend to not refer to "Islamic terrorism" or "Islamist terrorism" - instead referring merely to "criminals" and "criminal acts" - is either supremely clever or depressingly thoughtless depending upon the premise they started from. Islamist terrorism - a tidier phrase than Islamic terrorism - neatly describes the criminal act of terrorism carried out by Muslims with a political bent. With this phrase, there is no need for the epithet "extreme" before Islamist (meaning...

There are times as a convinced infidel when it's hard not to blanket-hate Islam - when you're worn-out, angry and reading up on yet another likely long-bearded, odium-spitting Islamist radical who hates you, your family, your country and everything you stand for yet lives amongst you and lives off you. It can be so easy to forget that there is a massive difference - a great gulf called civilisation - between Islam and Muslims on the...

Saudi cleric favours one-eye veil

A Muslim cleric in Saudi Arabia has called on women to wear a full veil, or niqab, that reveals only one eye. Sheikh Muhammad al-Habadan said showing both eyes encouraged women to use eye make-up to look seductive. The question of how much of her face a woman should cover is a controversial topic in many Muslim societies. The niqab is more common in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, but women in much of the Muslim Middle East wear a headscarf...

King Never Asked…

CNN's king of the talk-show hosts and the icon of one of the major television networks, Larry King, hosted an interview on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 with the devil himself.  Many Iranians felt completely betrayed by Mr. King's line of questioning. They felt that Mr. King was missing key questions. I am not advocating a hostile interview here, but how could Mr. King allow Ahmadinejad to easily dance away. It seemed he was deliberately making Ahmadinejad...

It is an HT internal email to the "internal HT list".  In the email, HT congratulates itself on being able to raise 20,000 Bengalis to rallies in spite of the fact that a game of scrabble on the streets of over-populated Dhakar, Bangladesh would draw in more if all could see the board. THE daughter of hate cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed is a POLE DANCER, The Sun can reveal. Busty Yasmin Fostok, 27, leads a secret life after rebelling against her fanatical Muslim dad - who rants against Western "depravity". She has performed in London pole dancing bars and gyrated half-naked in cages at club nights. And she admitted: "I'm willing to go topless if the venue is right." Violent Hizb ut Tahrir

A Bangladesh court refused bail on Sunday to 10 suspected members of the Hizb ut Tahrir group, which had threatened to bomb key installations if they were not released. Police said the group's members had said in faxed messages that they would launch bomb and grenade attacks unless the detainees were freed without delay. One fax was received at the police commissioner's office in Rajshahi on Saturday evening. Similar messages were sent to several police headquarters...

Pakistan Marriot Bomb

British Airways has halted all flights to Pakistan following the bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, a spokesman for the airline has confirmed this morning. "We have temporarily suspended our flight operations in Pakistan following Saturday's suicide attack," Sohail Rehman, a spokesman for British Airways, said. The last flight from London to Islamabad, the only destination served by the airline in Pakistan, operated yesterday. It departed as rescuers picked their way through the smouldering ruins of the hotel,...

Nine years, three defeats, two wipeouts and one absent superstar since the last time it belonged to the United States, the Ryder Cup changed hands Sunday at Valhalla Golf Club, where the routine cheer was just as unexpected as the outcome. For sure, the homespun Boo Weekley inspired the U.S. team and its fans, but it still wasn't easy coming up with a blueprint for success that didn't include top-ranked Tiger Woods - who is recovering from season-ending...

Following the airline liquid bomb plot convictions this week the spotlight has once again fallen on the secret, shadowy Muslim sect Tablighi Jamaat with certain politicians in Britain asking the question this weekend whether they merit a ban.
